Naturally, the tooth flywheel is slightly larger than the tooth making it require a slightly larger bellhousing.
On a Ford, the starter mounts to the bellhousing itself. The larger bellhousing offsets the starter slightly to make up for the larger diameter flywheel. If you have a tooth flywheel in a tooth bellhousing, the teeth of the starter would never reach the flywheel.
The tooth bellhousing used a specific starter meant for manual transmissions. The tooth flywheel used a starter that would interchange with an automatic transmission equipped car since they used a tooth flexplate. The bellhousings look fairly similar, but there are some key differences between the two. Notice the ribbing: the earlier style bellhousing for the tooth flywheel appears to have less of these structural ribs.
We offer flywheels with fixed and removable counterweights depending on the need. Removable weights are handy when there are plans to swap motors in the future that require different counterweights. Not all cross members are built the same. The Modern Driveline cross member solves these problems. We have provided enough clearance to fit convertibles where exhaust system clearance is very tight.
It is also built to withstand just about any type of use. Caution: Measure the length required first. We have seen too often, driveshafts which were wrong, to begin with. This can be done at any driveline service shop or purchase a custom made one from us in steel or aluminum We will ask for measurements and build to fit. The shifter on a T5, lines up with the shifter hole in the floor. Just a little of the floor has to be removed on the front and right side of the opening. Share Tweet.
